Library History

The Oklahoma Transportation Library (OTL) began with generous support from Oklahoma Transportation (OT) as a means to preserve the state agency's collection of transportation-related materials. These included reports, surveys, research, and journal publications that have helped propel transportation research and collaboration across the country. Langston University originally aided ODOT in cataloging the material. The collection then moved to OU, and is currently housed at Carson Engineering Center at the University of Oklahoma, Norman Campus.

Through its cataloging efforts, the library contains a large cross-section of engineering-related material from over two-dozen states. These materials include county-wide soil surveys, standard specifications for highway construction, various geological reports, as well as official reports from state agencies including ODOT. With a catalog of materials that stretches back several decades, the OTL is prepared to assist a wide variety of patrons, including ODOT personnel, researchers, students, and stakeholders.

The OTL maintains a wide range of affiliations with various groups, including the National Transportation Knowledge Network (NTKN), OT, and the Southern Plains Transportation Center (SPTC). Being a part of this network, the library is better able to conduct symposiums, seminars, webinars, and various other presentations aimed at increasing knowledge in the academic and engineering community. The OTL continues to lead the way in innovative outreach, and looks forward to building partnerships across a wide spectrum of interested parties. Walk-ins are always welcome, and the staff is standing ready and able to assist with any research needs patrons might have.
